Front cover is blind-stamped with gilt lettering at spine with very minor wear at cover edges. Back lower corner bumped. Tanning from age. Translation of Kloster Wendhusen by Emilie Wilhelmine Bertha Behrens (1848-1912), German novelist who used the pen name Wilhelmine Heimburg. Small label on back fixed endpaper: Hochschild, Kohn & Co. Gift inscription on front free endpaper: "Eunice Ingham from Katharine Smyth." Possibly Eunice D. Ingham (1889-1974) who played a leading role in the establishment of the field of reflexology. In Good Condition: cover is rubbed, heavily in some places; back hinge is weak; light soiling on a few pages.

Text unmarked, but with minor soiling. All edges marbled. Decorated endpapers. Illustrated in b/w throughout. Dark blue cloth boards decorateed with a leaf patteren in light blue and gilt, and lettered in gilt. Boards lightly scuffed, corners worn to boards, spine top and tail frayed, spine slightly cocked. Joints and hinges good, binding firm.
