About This Item

London (printer): no publisher but Vol.3 index printed by John Darby, 1732. 5th or later Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Three volumes. Recent half leather and marbled boards with gilt on black sp. labels with main title only and gilt volume numbers, virtually pristine, top edges vols 2 & 3 gilt, vol. 1 very darkened. Vol.1: f/piece engr. full length portrait by Closterman, engr. Gribeliin + set t.p. with circular central engraved cartouche by Gribeliin (apparently taken from another work as has 'Vol.III P. 198-199' at bottom which is simply text in Vol. 3 of this set), + (1, set contents) + iv inc. Volume 2: t.p. with large square central engr. panel and Preface with large heraldic eng. head-piece) + 364; like other vols. this has new end-papers, light tanning recto f/piece edges and central main t.p., otherwise clean, tight and unmarked; Vol.2: volume t.p. withengr. central panel + 443, , engr. head-piece top p.5; no obvious internal faults, no tanning but some dark spots to some of bottom edge of text-block; Vol. 3: lacking volume t.p., starting with Treatise VI t.p. + 410 + Dd 2 - Gg 2 unpaginated Index; dge tanning up to p.7, and fairly heavily on final page, otherwise no obvious faults. I note that 1713 dated t.p. of Treatise VII includes the Letter Concerning Design. The only really significant fault with this set is missing main t.p. to Vol.3. A very attractive set, though modern rebinding may not be to everyone's taste. Weighs 2.98 kg unpacked so allow for significant additional postage outside UK. 14,5 cm x 22,5 cm
