Contemporary full calf, gilt tooled raised-ribbed spines with contrasting labels, boards gilt ruled and gilt tooled at edges (spines rather worn at head and tails and boards scratched and marked; outer joints weakened). Pp. [vi] + iv + 364 + [4] blank [&] [ii] + 443 + [5] blank [&] [vi] + 391 + [1] blank + [54] index + [2] blank, illus with engraved portrait frontispiece in vol I and elaborately engraved titles and headpieces in all vols (previous owners' neat inscrpotions in contemporary hands on front prelims and armorial bookplates on front paste-downs).
