About This Item

Denver, Colorado: Sage Books, 1964. The author moved to Kansas with her parents in 1886 and later spent a year's duration in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma, with her uncle. She returned using the old Chisholm Trail. She was raised to womanhood in the Cherokee Strip, which was opened for white settlement in the famous"run" by 100,000 men, women, and children to stake land claims on September 16,1893. The author details what was to be the opening of the last frontier, Oklahoma. The book is inscribed "To Lucile" and signed by the author. The book is in Very Good+ condition. It is bound in a turquoise cloth with silver spine titles. The spine tips and edges are lightly rubbed. The endpapers are a map of Oklahoma as it was initially divided up. The book includes photographic inserts. The binding is tight and secure, and the text pages are clean and bright. When I purchased this book, I found tucked inside a period newspaper article from the Wichita Eagle and Beacon about the author, her family, and how the book came to be written. I've placed the article into an envelope and tucked it back into the book. The price-unclipped dust jacket is in Good condition, with chips missing along the top and bottom edges. I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. The book measures 5 7/8 by 8 3/4 inches and includes 244 pages. The dust jacket artwork is by Mrs. Marion (Bonnie) Farmer, herself of pioneer Texas stock, who moved to Oklahoma.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good+/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
