Charlemagne ou La Caroléide by Charles-Victor Prévot, vicomte d'Arlincourt, was the first published work of d'Arlincourt, but it failed to gain him the celebrity he craved. He followed up with Le Solitaire (1821), his most notable work, and three subsequent novels: Le Renégat (1822), Ipsiboé (1823), and L'Étrangère in 1825.
