1927., 1927.. Very good. - A 5 inch high by 3-3/4 inch wide cream-colored stiff paper Christmas card illustrated with an original 3-3/8 inch high by 2-1/2 inch wide sepia-toned Huard engraving. Inside is a printed message of good wishes for Christmas and the New Year 1927-28 from Huard and his wife Francoise. There is a very light vertical crease to the card. The margins of the illustration are slightly soiled & there is some light glue staining to the blank 4th side. Very good. <p>French printmaker Charles Huard [1874-1965] trained at the Atelier Julian and began his career as an illustrator for such popular French periodicals as La Rire and L'Assiette au Beurre. Prior to World War I his greatest claim to fame was as the illustrator of the complete works of Honore de Balzac [1910]. During the war he became the official painter to the Sixth French Army. He and his wife Frances Wilson Huard also collaborated on a series of titles which she authored and he illustrated with his pencil sketches.
