Charles Reed Bishop (1822-1915) arrived in Hawaii in 1846. A success in business, he married into the Hawaiian royal family and ultimately served in several positions for the government of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He founded the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum (named for his wife) and was instrumental in the founding of the Kamehameha Schools.
