(New York): Harper & Brothers, 1955. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. Illustrated in color by Maurice Sendak. 16mo. [24]pp. Pictorial papercovered boards, black cloth spine. Fine in first issue dust jacket with 8-line blurb on Krauss and Sendak, and a 4-line blurb about the book; the $2.00 price on flap at bottom corner has been price-clipped and received a new rubberstamped price. A story about a little girl, and Milky Way, her horse. The first book illustrated in full color by Sendak, who spoke highly of Krauss saying: "Ruth broke rules and invented new ones, and her respect for the natural ferocity of children bloomed in to poetry that was utterly faithful to what was true in their lives". Sendak and Krauss collaborated on nine books together, and inspired many to imitate their rebellious child protagonists.
