About This Item
New York: Rinehart, 1956. First Edition. Signed presentation copy from Horton Foote, inscribed by the author: “For H.J. Patrick Emerson with all good wishes, Horton Foote.” Usual slight tanning of pages, else near fine with the upper left corner of the rear board slightly bumped and torn without dust jacket.This play version was published by Foote four years before he wrote the story as a novel under the same title. The basis of the motion picture depicting a bigoted Texas town and starring Marlon Brando, Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, and Robert Duvall, directed by Arthur Penn with a screenplay by Lillian Hellman.
