When the Fraser family, headed by Rosamund, an unconventional widow, arrives next door, Herbert Blackett (a seriously un-likeable character) finds his once unquestioned control over his wife and three daughters challenged. The protagonist feels isolated in her community (but not in her home) by what she sees as acceptance of the loss of what England stands for and why it matters.* A NEAR VG+ copy with considerable age to jacket reducing it to VG*
