About This Item
New Rochelle, NY: Arlington House, 1972 Arlington House, New Rochelle, NY. 1972. Hardcover. First Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Near Fine; light rubbing to heal. DJ: VG; NOT price clipped; closed tear on lower front; light sun fading to spine. Orange grained boards and spine with black lettering on spine and publisher's A on front board. 192 pp 8vo. Bridging the years between the dime novels of the 19th century and today's paperbacks, pulp magazines provided readers with their first and only tastes of "literature". Pulps were printed on the cheapest paper and housed in lurid covers that horrified schoolmarms, moralists, and mothers. Adventure and excitement could be had every month for a dime as a cowboy story, a detective story, a science fiction and fantasy story, a love story, a sports story, or an adventure story. Grub Street hacks and well-known writers started their paths to greatness here. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
