About This Item
A historical novel that takes us from 1825 to 1884, encompassing the life of chess champion Paul Morphy (1837-1884). It does not, however, focus on the chess, but rather puts Morphy into a diplomatic role in Europe during the Civil War. (In real life, Morphy returned to New Orleans from Europe in 1859, gave up chess, and played no role in the civil war at all.)
The book has little wear other than some ink on the bottom page ends and a little bit of shelf wear. The dust jacket has suffered the most, with a half dozen tears and significant wear at the corners. 533 pages.
