391 pages. No marks or defects of any kind, The 1971 reprint of Shellabarger's compelling 1928 account of the life and career of French knight Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard (c. 1476 – 1524). Bayard lived toward the end of the age of chivalry and knighthood, in the transition period between the medieval and renaissance periods and was famed for his unparalleled skill in military leadership as well as his honor, loyalty, chivalry and honesty; he was everything the ideal knight should be, known as "the knight without fear and beyond reproach".
Bound into the volume is a letter from Vivian Shellabarger presenting this copy to the former owner, eminent medievalist Prof K.M. Setton of the Princeton Institute of Advanced Study.
