Sylvan Press, London, 1950. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Illustrated. Inscribed by person(s) connected with book. Dedication to Dame (then Miss) Margot Fonteyn, preface by author, list of illustrations, to appendices, notes, bibliography and index. Black and white illustrated frontispiece of Jean Georges Noverre; with reproductions of historical artwork, in black-and-white throughout the book. Brick coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as for frontispiece, with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A biography of Jean Georges Noverre, known as the Chevalier Noverre, who in the 18th century reformed ballet into what we now know it. Set against the tumultuous 18th-century in continental Europe and England. Signed on the title page by Dame Margot Fonteyn. A little rubbing of the book corners and softening of the back strip edges. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages with previous owner's sticker to the top right hand corner of the free front end page. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges with a few small tears also present. Rubbing and sunning to the dustwrapper with a previous owner protecting/supporting the four corners of the dustwrapper and the back strip edges with tape – tape still in situ.
