About This Item
Boston: Damrell & Upham, 1893. Book. Good. Wraps. 1st printing.. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A paper presented during The World's Columbian Water Commerce Congress held in 1893 in Chicago (therefore also known as the Chicago World's Fair), commemorating the arrival of Columbus in the New World (although certain people living in the New World at the time were fairly sure that it wasn't all that new, since they'd been living there for 12,000 years, give or take a couple of decades. Ketchum, joint engineer of the Chignecto Ship Railway, makes the case for the railway as a means of affording "cheap, rapid and safe passage for vessels between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Bay of Fundy," thereby making Canadian and Canada/U.S. trade more efficient and profitable for all involved. Booklet, stitched wraps, 16 pages (including covers). Slight tanning, sticker pull to top right corner of front cover, soil/staining, a bit of smudging. An uncommon first printing..
