Octavo. 564, [1]pp. Black dust jacket with yellow and red lettering on the front, photo-portrait on the back. Sunned yellow lettering on the spine. Page uncut. Inscribed, signed and dated by Hecht on the front free endpaper, in pen. A first printing of the acclaimed autobiography of the award-winning and prolific playwright, journalist and and Hollywood screenwriter Ben Hecht. His most notable works include the screenplays for films such as Underworld (1927), Scarface (1932), Gunga Din (1939), Wuthering Heights (1939), Spellbound (1945), and Notorious (1946). The wrote the acclaimed play The Front Page, most famously adapted as the classic film His Girl Friday (1940). Original dust jacket with some minor rubbing and creasing to extremities, with light sunning to the spine. Interior flaps of the jacket unclipped with light foxing and water stains. Binding with light rubbing and bumping to extremities. Covers with minor scratches and smudges. Close tear to the head of the spine. Interior front cover with the ink stamp of a previous owner. Interior otherwise clean. Binding tight. Dj and binding in very good-, interior in near fine condition overall.
