About This Item
London: The Studio Ltd, 1933. First Edition. Cloth. Fine/Very Good. Various. 4to. 128 pp. with copious illustrations of children's book art from 1672 to late nineteenth century, and includes examples of many of the greats, including Walter Crane, Greenaway, Caldecott, the Cruikshanks, Richard Doyle, Tenniel, Edward Lear, Thackeray, etc. Some plates are in color. Also four interesting ad pages in the preliminaries. A fine copy of a rare book that should be a cornerstone of any collection of children's illustrated literature. DJ has minor tears and minor loss but overall is very good and sturdy -- it is of thicker paper stock than customary nowadays -- and on front has illustration of boy and girl reading.
