Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Slight foxing front/rear pages, but body of book mostly clean and unfoxed. Minor water damage to covers and text. Burgundy gilt stamped cloth over boards with paste down illustration on front cover of Mozart as a child, frontis with tissue of Mozart as a child, 243 pages, in addition to the frontis there are 11 black-and-white plates of composers (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Strauss, Schubert, Grieg, Wagner), XXVII figures in the text (musical notations). Corners and spine ends lightly worn, damp stain on front cover has caused bleeding onto paste down on front cover and on front and back end papers. Includes chapters on the listener's part in music, what music is made up of, meter and rhythm, how melodies are built into pieces, music that tells stories, the inside of a piano, the orchestra, the opera, and chapters highlighting the various composers featured.
