Demuth (1883-1935), elegant and understated modernist master of American vernacular architecture, most often industrial and infrastructural, is often labeled a "Precisionist." He was a Lancaster hometown boy whose career led him to Paris, many Turkish bathhouses-which he painted with bold candor-and to close friendships with Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O'Keeffe, William Carlos Williams, and other leading lights in painting, photography, and literature. This is the catalog of the Demuth exhibit at The Amon Carter Museum Aug 19-Oct 14, 2007.
