Previous owner's name (Victor Brosz, retired Dean of Fine Arts, University of Calgary who was later murdered by his partner) inside and Carlo Zauli business card paper clipped to front endpaper. Carlo Zauli (1926-2002) won the grand-prix of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza three times, is of world-wide renown; as the standard-bearer of the Italian ceramic art world, he has produced highly dynamic scupltures made of ceramics through an exhaustive pursuit of the possibilities of earth as a medium. His talents have also shined in such fields as fine and elaborate architectural façades and tile design, and his non-ceramic designs and lithographs have also received high acclaim. 150 pages. Text in Italian and English. Many black and white photos.

Tears between cover and spine about one inch in at top and bottom, but no loss to spine. Early inscription on the front flyleaf. A scarce work.

A very good copy with excellent provenance - signed and inscribed by the author Luc Haesaerts and dedicated to Madame Lyle. (The Lyles took over the lease of Barrington Court from the National Trust and oversaw and financed its extensive restoration - the Lyles had made their money from sugar i.e. Tate & Lyle). This copy is no. 517 of 1000. 703 pages, colour frontispiece and black and white images throughout. Original cream cloth binding with paper on-lay to the front front board, very good with a little general wear and rubbing, a little dust marked. Contents clean and tight, minimal spotting to page edges, otherwise unmarked. A very good copy with outstanding provenance signed by Luc Haesaerts..

Illustrated with 6 plates of 134 water-color samples gradated and tipped in by hand on Whatman's drawing paper. With a one-page introduction by John Ruskin, the leading art critic of the Victorian era, as well as art patron, water-colorist and prominent social thinker and philanthropist. The introductory essay by J. Scott Taylor, editor of Fields Chromatography, deals with the durability of pigments when exposed to sunlight, followed by chapters on sources of pigments and descriptions of pigments. Very Good condition. Grey Hard cover, some darkening on upper edge with small area of foxing, 2 small spots of foxing on front edge and very slight damage to top and bottom of spine. Defects consistent with age. Pages and plates are clean and in very good condition. The color samples are bright and substantiates the claim of the color permanence of Winsor & Newton colors.
