About This Item
New York: Dodd, Mead, 1924. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. 8vo, pp xii, 3-373, in original yellow, red, and blue pictorial cloth. Slight rubbing to extremities, some faint spots on spine, else fine. Ownership signature reading "A.G. Page" or "A.Y. Page" on front free endpaper; penciled note on front blank: "Miss Page in China during May 1935." Grace Thompson Seton (b. 1872) was the author of many travel books, several of which recounted her adventures hunting big game, fishing, and collecting specimens in the American and Canadian West with her naturalist husband Ernest Thompson. Later, she became an advocate for women's rights and traveled internationally to learn about the condition of women abroad. This book recounts her trip to China, during which she took pains to meet with women of various levels of influence and education and to describe how the role of women in Chinese society was changing, and where she felt reforms were needed.
