About This Item

New York, New York: George Pratt , 1851. Edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; some shelf wear; foxing; stain at the base of the wrapper which has bled through to a few of the interior pages (does not affect readability); overall a nice clean and collectible used vintage side sewn periodical! Very very rare and hard-to-find vintage mid 19th century periodical! White wrapper with black and white illustration and lettering. Pages number 124-149 and are very historical and informative and are nicely enhanced by black and white illustrations. Extremely scarce and collectible! (Vol. VIII, No. V, September, 1851) Wonderfully well-preserved for its 160+ year age! "It is the avowed purpose of the CHRISTIAN PARLOR MAGAZINE, to serve to those intelligent Christian families who, in gratifying their taste and informing their minds, wish at the same time to consult their moral good, as the medium of a pure, elevating, and attractive literature. However great may be the demand for what is termed 'light reading,' there is a large and increasing number who seek for something better, and who wish to cultivate the understanding without corrupting the heart: who desire for themselves and their children an order of literature of higher grade and more permanent value than love-tales and romance. It is to this class the CHRISTIAN PARLOR MAGAZINE addresses itself, and in whose increasing patronage it finds encouragement and success............" (Vol. VIII, No. V, September, 1851). "Illustrated with rich, appropriate, and beautiful Engravings, on Steel and Wood.". First Edition. Trade Paperback. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
