Very good. - Octavo, bound in three-quarter red morocco leather and marbled boards, titled and decorated in gilt between raised bands on the spine. All edges are marbled. The boards are rubbed with some minor scuffing to the leather and slight wear to the corners. 493 pages, illustrated with a frontispiece by John Leech, plus 4 plates & textual illustrations by Sir Edwin Landseer, Maclise, Stanfield, F. Stone, Doyle, Leech and Tenniel. There is evidence of early worming to the top and bottom of the hinges. An early owner's name is penned at the top of the half-title and the pages are very slightly toned. Very good. <p>Five Christmas books by Charles Dickens in one volume. The contents consists of: "A Christmas Carol", "The Chimes", "The Cricket on the Hearth", "The Battle of Life", and "The Haunted Man", all with textual illustrations by Sir Edwin Landseer, Maclise, Stanfield, F. Stone, Doyle, Leech and Tenniel. "A Christmas Carol" is further illustrated with 3 plates by Leech and "The Chimes" is also further illustrated with a plate by Maclise.
