About This Item

Oklahoma City: Oklahoma Historical Society, 1921. First Edition. Soft cover. Good+. THE CHRONICLES OF OKLAHOMA - COMPLETE SET, RARE THUS, 1921-2006 (Fall issue), + 23 pamphlet indices of various years + cloth bound index Vol. I - XXXVII (1921-1959). I have been selling and collecting good Oklahoma material, inclusive Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory for nearly 50 years.  Aside from my personal set of the Chronicles, which took me years to compile, I have never seen a complete set (up to the modern era) for sale.  Beginning in 1921, the historical society, organized in 1893, published its first issue, Volume 1, #1.  Later that year (1921) Volume 1 #2 was published.  Because of financial shortages, Volume 1 #3 was not published until 1923. There was no #4 published.  Beginning in 1924, four issues were published a year without a break.  When I compiled my set I learned of the gap 1921-1923 and verified it's details.  With the acquisition of the set here offered for sale, I reached out to the society and in both a personal telephone conversation with and an email from Published Collections Manager Patricia Nunes once again confirmed the gap in publication. A copy of her email will be included with the purchase of this set.  With the exception of one issue in 1952, all copies are in good+ to fine condition, with most in the vg range.  There was a period of times when the paper used for the covers inevitably became a little foxed on the edges. The one poor issue is stained and front cover detached.  Not only are all the issues present but there are various indexes present, and of note the rare separate, four-page index to Volume I.  As the buyer should expect, shipping even media rate will be expensive. We will most likely ship in one box per decade of publication and the total cost will be close to $250.  A mutual decision will be made about insurance.  I will use sturdy boxes and pack to protect the contents.  The rich history of Oklahoma is nowhere presented in such a scholarly and well-edited manner.  The information in this mass of material in profoundly invaluable. We will require personal contact from the buyer so that all these issues can be discussed and clarified before completing purchase and shipment. This is for both the protection of the purchaser as well as me, the bookseller. Thank you for your kind consideration.
