Paris: Louis Janet. Good with no dust jacket. (1830). First Edition. Hardcover. No date but 1830. [ii], clvii, 11, 44, [2], [4]. Illustrated with 4 illuminated plates in colors and gold, 4 initials in colors and gold, and 4 initials in colors and gold with designs of flowers, leaves, dragons, knights, etc. around the page. Gilt edges. Bound in original red silk velour embossed with angels, flora, fruit, demons with a special cold press, beautiful renewed red leather spine with 5 raised bands with gilt in the compartments. Interior green moire percaline endpapers have been reinforced at the hinges. The Chroniques is followed by the first edition of Le Style by Nodier, followed by 4 pages of music. One of the most charming examples of the "neo-troubadour" fashion, created in the Romantic era by the rediscovery of the Middle Age. The text is printed in Gothic, illustration and illumination are in the style of the fifteenth century. Janet had made a specialty of these fine works. This beautiful copy has magnificent color illumination all touched with gold. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall .
