About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1966. First U.S. Edition Stated . Hard Back. Very Good/Good. 6" X 8 1/2. 577 pages indexed. Dust jacket is a little ragged around the edges with some tears at the top of the spine area. This is an abridgement of The Early Churchills and The Churchills, a two volume history. The Churchill family, take them all in all, are probably the most striking and variegated of all the families in which English history has been so rich. This edition cuts out a great deal of detailed research-material without sacrificing anything material to the story, or dimishing its richness or lessened its diversity. Probably no figure in history has himself been more inspired than Winston Churchill was by awareness of the history of his own family and country. All the characters are here, John and Sarah, first Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, Lord Randolph Churchill and Sir Winston, the original Sir Winston, and the Cavalier Colonel
