New Haven: Yale College. Very Good. 1858. First Edition. Hardcover. Now, this is an interesting book. Very ornate binding. Gilt decorations, with heavily embossed front cover, with the owner's (Thomas) name at the bottom. The front hinge has started to crack, which has been reninforced with a clear substance. No page count, but the think is 3" thick. A beautiful engraving of every graduate, followed by a handwritten inscription To Thomas. Inside the covers & on the first pages are engravings of the college & surroundings. The only xlib mark I can find anywhere is a small stamp at the bottom of the first page. There is no title page; the cover evidently fulfills that function. Most of the inscriptions give the signers birthdate; must have been a tradition. At least one was written later (1864) in a hospital, and refers to a battlefield. This is just way cool. ; Ex-Library; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
