About This Item

Sotheby Parke Bernet Publications, London, first edition, 1977. Cloth, gilt cover illustration, large 4to,. xii, 136 pp, 52 plates. 1,151 entries. From the blurb: "The recently published catalogue of [the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers'] museum of clocks and watches exhibited at the Guildhall Library is now followed by a new and much expanded edition of the catalogue of its extensive library of books, portraits, engravings, watch-papers and manuscripts, all of which are available for public consultation. The manuscript section is of special importance; the Library contains unique material relating to that remarkable horologist John 'Longitude' Harrison, the bicentenary of whose death was commemorated in 1976. The records of business firms and the complete archive of the Clockmakers Company since its inception provide documentary evidence on many aspects of the clock and watch trade. Comprehensive indexes of names and topics are provided and care has been taken to indicate therein sources of local and regional lists of makers. This new catalogue of the Clockmakers Company Library provides a most valuable source of material for all students and historians of horology. Very Good in slightly rubbed dustwrapper.
