Acceptable. 440 p., plus 14-page catalog of "Valuable and Interesting Works for Public & Private Libraries Published by Harper & Brothers, New York," all clean and unmarked anywhere; frontis. ill.; binding firm though there are signs of incipient cracking at gutters, some scrapes on burgundy back paste down; forest-green boards have faint mottling, but gilt lettering is still bright--including holograph of author's signature on front, and series "Charles Reade's Novels" on spine. Deserves some skillful repair.
