About This Item
Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1926. Second edition, 1926 (title page dated 1926 but includes a preface to the second edition - presumably the first edition predated 1926). Recipes, menus, entertainment tips and social commentary by a woman who opened a coffee roasting shop to make ends meet after the death of her husband, and who wound up managing nine restaurants in Manhattan. Includes a few recipes for drinks that contained illegal spirits during the time of Prohibition with the comment that they are there for a time when these beverages might become legal again. I suspect that she may have written this with a wink. Floral printed (hydrangeas, I believe) hardcover with blue cloth spine, paper labels, 131 pages. Covers rubbed around the edges, chip to spine label, spine a bit faded, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages, no names or other markings.. Hard Cover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
