About This Item
London: Leo Cooper / Secker & Warburg, 1986. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white photos, top edge & fore-edge foxed, minor edgewear jacket, written corrections two pages, protected by removable semiarchival plastic sleeve. 206 pp. The story of the three raids carried out by the Japanese Coffin Boats during World War 2 (WW2): part of Pearl Harbor attack (December 1941), Sydney Harbour and Diego Suarez in Madagascar (both May 1942). Peggy Warner and Sadao Seno have consulted all the archives on both sides of the Pacific and interviewed all those still alive who played any part in the three raids to write a vivid and accurate account of this curious and short-lived experiment in underwater warfare. The book judiciously combines the Oriental and the Occidental point of view. (Written corrections to text in red ink, pages 158 - 159.).
