Volume I only (of two) of this deluxe reprint edition of the collected writings of England's Joseph Lister (1827-1912). Dr. Lister, a surgeon, became convinced that sterilization techniques used during surgeries could reduce deadly infections, which proved to be accurate. With illustrations in color and black & white, and an unattributed introduction. Includes facsimile of the original 1909 Oxford University Press issuance of this work. Number 7633 of an apparently limited edition. --- In full grey bonded leather with four raised spine bands. All edges gilt. With gilt-stamped cover and spine titling and decorations; more decorations in blind to covers. Also with grey silk moire endpapers, and matching sewn-in ribbon bookmark. --- With a little scratching to textblock edge gilding, small scuffs to mid-spine area, mild bump to lower front cover corner, and strips of sunning to edges of endpapers; otherwise a bright and intact copy.
