Rivlin is one of the principal architects of nonlinear continuum mechanics: This comprehensive two-volume set contains most of Rivlin's renown scientific papers, including his seminal work on the mechanics of vulcanized rubber (in the 1940's and 1950's) which established the basis for finite elasticity theory; isotropic and anisotropic finite elasticity; mechanics of continua; constitutive equations; electromagnetism; crystal physics; non-Newtonian fluids; semiquantitative theory- which predicted normal stresses of the observed order of magnitiude from the structure of a polymer solution; fracture; etc. Rivlin was one of the preeminant pioneers of nonlinear continuum mechanics. An autobiographical postscript of his life is included in Vol. I. 2828 pp. collectively. 323 llustrations. Frontispiece photo of Rivlin in both volumes. Heavy Items.. First Edition. Hard Cover.
