France: Roissard Grenoble, 1969. Numbered. Wraps. Very Good. #195 of 974 copies printed. White printed wraps. In red clothbound folder and matching slipcase. 203 pp. Black and white lithographs by Henri Patez. All text in French. An historical novella revolving around a young woman who encourages her brother to commit a revenge murder, set in Corsica. Prosper Merimee was a 19th century French author and dramatist. VERY GOOD condition. Light toning to the covers. Many pages unopened along the top edge. Slipcase and folder in good condition with heavy fading to the spines, minor soiling and scuffing. Some peeling to the cloth along the hinges of the slipcase.

Synopsis

Dans les premiers jours du mois d'octobre 181., le colonel sir Thomas Nevil, Irlandais, officier distingue de l'armee anglaise, descendit avec sa fille a l'hotel Beauveau, a Marseille, au retour d'un voyage en Italie. L'admiration continue des voyageurs enthousiastes a produit une reaction, et, pour se singulariser, beaucoup de touristes aujourd'hui prennent pour devise le nil admirari d'Horace. C'est a cette classe de voyageurs mecontents qu'appartenait miss Lydia, fille unique du colonel.
