About This Item

[Los Angeles]: Friends of the USC Libraries. Very Good. 1980. First Edition. Stapled wraps. [minor wear, slightly bumped and crimped at top of spine, and unfortunately a section of Olivia de Havilland's commentary on page 46 is underlined and outlined in red ink]. (B&W photo frontispiece) Transcription of an event honoring Warner Bros. studio chief Jack L. Warner, who had passed away the previous September. Hal Kanter was the master of ceremonies, and the participants who contributed remarks and anecdotes were: William Schaefer, William Orr, Irving Rapper, William Conrad, Mervyn LeRoy, Julius Epstein, Melville Shavelson, Max Wilk, Pat Buttram, Olivia de Havilland, Dennis Morgan, Debbie Reynolds, and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. In the middle of the evening, there was a musical interlude, in which songwriters Saul Chaplin, Harry Warren, Sammy Fain, and Sammy Cahn all participated, trading banter with Kanter and occasionally breaking into song: Cahn's contribution to the event was a (supposedly) ad-libbed version of "It's Magic," substituting his trademarked special lyrics suited to the occasion. .
