Houghton, Mifflin & Company, Boston and New York, 1895. First Edition. Hardcover (illustrated Cloth). Good Condition/Good. Beige coloured cloth covered boards with multicoloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. Blank beige coloured dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the back strip. In this study the author, an American historian, looks at the history of women in the colonial period of America. The book is in sections and each chapter deals with a particular facet of life  for example Women of Affairs, 'Double-Tongued and Naughty Women', Eighteenth-Century Manners and Daughters of Liberty et cetera. A little softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of all edges and of the panels. Some sunning to the back strip with light tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. The major damage to the book has been the dedication page which has almost completely come away from the text block. Very light offset tanning to the end pages. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and to the back strip edges, the top worse than the lower edge. Light sunning of the panels with quite noticeable sunning and staining to the back strip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Small brown marks from adhesive tape used by previous owner to hold the protective plastic, has leaked onto front and rear endpapers..
