One of the most original early treatises on color theory and analysis and a precursor to the work of many iconic modern artists. In green cloth with gilt type and design motif. Top corners bumped and worn, especially front with wear at others exposing boards at all but bottom rear corner. Light wear at spine ends. Gilt to top page ends with a few scratches. Tiny chip to bottom corner of ffep and a few other chips and corner creases to first 50 pages or so. Creasing to top corners of text block to a decreasing degree for the first half of the book due to the front corner bump. Pocket to rear pastedown is mostly separated at top and to half its length at bottom, but still holding at fore edge. Contains 2 colored celluloid 'chips'(there were at least 3 originally), celluloid color wheel and a piece of paper with die cut square in the middle to interact with illustrations in book. The first quarter of the book is text, the remaining 3/4 is made up of color plates printed on a thick textured paper and contains an incredible wealth of color examination and analysis. Rear endpapers are mostly split, but binding is still solid. A one-of-a-kind book and extremely scarce.
