Paris: Librairie Bachelin-Deflorenne, 1875. First Edition, with contemporary annotations showing prices achieved. A paper label shows that this copy was for Monsieur Pavet, and that he was to received a volume bound in half red leather and with papier Agathe (which this copy is). The majority of the catalogues were softback, so Monsieur Pavet must have been a valued customer. American citizen, the owner of this collection, Mr. Benzon, ran the house of Naylor, Benzon & Cie in London. He died two years before his library went on sale. Many of the books he purchased were from the Henry Bordes collection, who wrote catalogue entries for much of this sale (signified by his initials after the entry). The sale comprised 400 items, and against each, is the price achieved (in pencil) Red half calf with gilt titles. Brown marbled boards. This album contains portraits of Swedish and international stage artists who were active in Stockholm during the WW1. Portrait sheets: 330 x 240 mm (13 x 9½ inches). Folder: 350 by 260 mm (13¾ by 10¼ inches). The spine is starting to split and has a small water stain. There is a gift inscription 'poem' (dated 1962) to someone at Calle Flygare Teaterskola on the inside cover of the folder. The first lithograph has a small water stain to the spine edge in line with what appears on the spine edge. Someone has written (possibly same hand as inscription) 'Kalle Flygare' to the back cover. John Jon-And was a Swedish illustrator, set designer and artist. Paris: Béchet jeune, 1832. Half leather with marbled boards. Gilt titles to the spine. The hinges of the spine have a little cracking, but are still holding well. Marbled end papers. This is a "First Thus" and seems to be an expanded edition. Originally published by Bechet Jeune between 1823-26, this edition was published in 1832. In addition to the 21 numbered plates, there are 5 marked biz, plus engraved title, so a total of 27 plates. 7 of the plates are hand coloured. Curiously, every copy I have seen online has 7 hand coloured plates, presumably the same ones. The plates depict poisonous snakes, plants, fungi etc. Most of the pages are in very good condition. The title has a touch of darkening and staining to the corners. The first 12 plates have light staining (water?) to the spine edge, not affecting engraving. Only one slightly creeps on to actual image. Otherwise in a very good, clean condition. Blank to verso. Image size: 290 x 235 mm. Total sheet size: 560 x 370 mm (22 x 14½ inches). Elisabeth Ivanovsky, was a Moldova born Belgian painter and illustrator. Best known for her children's book illustrations, her work drew inspiration from Russian traditions, and avant-garde art.

London: Printed by T. Bensley, for E. and S. Harding, 1797. Hardback, covered in marbled paper covers with leather label to the spine. The preface is dated March 1796, and the pagination conforms to the first edition, but the date to the title page has been very neatly cut out. We are a little confused by this copy. The pagination is correct, and every page number is present as it should be - but there are 14 engraved head pieces by Thomas Stothard, and 8 engraved tail pieces (not 14 as other 1st edition copies mention). The is also no full page engraving. So this may be a second edition without engraving? The label is darkened, and the edge of the spine a little chipped, exposing the paper beneath. Still attractive though. A few light foxing spots, but the engravings are good clean impressions.
