Gay, 3056.-------------------------, in-8 (24 x 15.5cm), 600 pp., contemporary green hard-grained morocco (rubbed on spine and joints, faded spine, some wear on the paper of covers), spine raised on 4 bands underlined with gilt dotted fillets, 5 compartments decorated with a gilt fleurons, brown title label on spine, red edges.Third edition enriched by 60 engravings in en out text and 6 maps (4 folding) and by a full-length portrait of the author in frontispiece. Henry Mr. Stanley (1841-1904) correspondent of various newspapers in Asia minor and Abyssinia, is sent in 1869 by the editor association of the New York Herald Tribune in equatorial Africa, with for mission to find David Livingstone 1813-1873), left to research the source of the Nile and disappeared. It will take him long months to discover the explorer. He will reach on November 10, 1871 the point where Livingstone is blocked on the banks of lake Tanganyika, in Tanzania. Livingstone is sick and have no provision more. Stanley is often remembered for the words uttered to Livingstone upon finding him: 'Dr. Livingstone, I presume?' some foxings without gravity. Cft. The current bookstore has its origins in the one that existed in the 80s in Redu, a small village in the Ardennes. It is there, in a charming manor house, Dirk Minet had his bookbinding workshop and his bookstore.
In the early 90s, he moved to Brussels and with the collaboration of his brother Bernard created a place even more conducive to the passion for old books that motivated them both. After seven years, Bernard leaves and Dirk alone presides over the destiny of the Minet-frères bookshop.
In April 1996 opening of the first website of the bookstore with the URL address http://www.librairie-minet-frères.
In June 1997, the site was completely renovated and changed address.
Today the books have found their setting in a splendid 19th century mansion.
