Folio. 18th-century British full calf, spine ruled in gilt and with red morocco lettering-piece; pp. [xxiv], 302, [52], title-page printed in red and black, historiated woodcut initials, woodcut head- and tail-pieces; extremities a little worn, internally very crisp, clean and fresh. First edition of this social, political and military history of Florence during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. The historian Nerli (1485-1566) had been a friend of Machiavelli and supported the Medici family. - A beautifully produced work.
