Chips in head and heel of jacket spine and some stains. Gilt wearing thin on spine. Ink inscription on front free endpaper. Occasional spots on darkened pages.

The author wrote essays on Chaucer, Montaigne, the Duchess of Newcastle, Evelyn, Defoe, Addison, Austen, the Brontes, George Eliot, Joseph Conrad, etc. Kirkpatrick A.8(b).
