About This Item
American Book Company; Appleton. New York. 1884. 399 pages followed by 8 pages of advertisement for American Book Company Publications. 5 in x 7 3/4 in. The dark covers are in good shape with title in gold on front and on spine. There is some fraying along edges. The spine is frayed and worn, especially along edge with front board. The binding is loose, with the front hinge starting to detach. All pages are bound, although the textblock is loose in spots. The front end papers are creased and soiled, and the first few pages are soiled in spots. Otherwise, the interior pages are generally clear and bright; most have no makings or foxing. The back endpaper has some writing in pencil. The book contains 384 black and white figures, many of these are in very good condition and are interesting depictions of geological processes and ancient life.
