About This Item
London, The Nonesuch Press, 1929. . Limited edition, number 585 of 1100 copies; 8vo; 6 copper engraved portraits by Charles Sigrist, 10 coloured text illustrations of fish; orignal full brown morocco, gilt 'I.W.' within oval frame to front cover, gilt lettering to spine, covers slightly marked, to edge gilt, others uncut, marbled endpapers, overall a very good copy.
'Walton's writings have never before been collected under one cover. The Angler and the Lives have always been dressed up separately so as to make their appeal to entirely different classes of readers, and Walton's full achievement has never been allowed to appear.' (Geoffrey Keynes)
This edition includes the Compleat Angler from the edition of 1668, with the variants of 1676 as an appendix. Keynes also supplies a Life of Walton and bibliographic notes.
