Half brown morocco over brown linen boards, spine in six compartments separated by raised bands, gilt lettering in two compartments, printed endpapers, steel engraved title and frontis, and illustrated with an additional 18 steel engravings, chiefly portraits in characted of celebrated American actors, drawn from life, expressly for this edition. Includes the plays Troilus and Cressidia, Coriolanus, Titus Andronicus, Romeo and Juliet, Timon of Athens, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Antony and Cleopatra, Cymbeline, and Pericles; and the Poems Venus and Adonis, The Rape Of Lucrece, Sonnets, The Passionate Pilgrim, A Lover's Complaint and a Commendatory Verses On Shakespeare.. Old damp-stain affecting lower portion of cover and lower fore-corner of most of the text block, but not affecting text or illustrations, covers worn, hinges strong, paper supple.
