About This Item

New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1938. First Edition. First printing of 1000 signed copies. Octavo. Cloth boards; dustjacket; 70pp. Gentle toning to text; a bit of paste offsetting to endpapers , still a tight, Near Fine copy in the original dustwrapper, unclipped, a shade sunned on spine panel, Near Fine.

Second published collection by the poet, experimental filmmaker, and tangential Warhol Factory figure, Willard Maas (1906-1971). Maas and his partner/collaborator Marie Menken produced, among many other projects, two biographical short films about Andy Warhol (Andy Warhol's Silver Flotations, 1966; and Andy Warhol, 1965). Maas and Menken have been described as "...a legendary couple in the New York art world, not only for their influential underground films, but also for their lavish parties and salons, which brought together artists, writers, filmmakers and intellectuals. According to Warhol, "Willard and Marie were the last of the great bohemians. They wrote and filmed and drank (their friends called them 'scholarly drunks') and were involved with all the modern poets" (see Electronic Arts Intermix, "Visions of Warhol" at www.eai.org).
