Contemporary sheep treated to resemble tree calf, lettering piece and gilt fillets to spine. A few minor nicks and scuffs, light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, rear joint starting at head, hinges cracked, minor worming to front pastedown. Moderate toning and light foxing to interior, crude repairs to leaf Gg4 (pp. 255-256) with loss to text, some offsetting to p. 257, faint dampstaining to margins of preliminaries, later owner signature (of John Wray) to front and rear endleaves. $200. * A popular American legal manual issued by different printers and publishers largely based on English sources, primarily Burn. The first edition by Parker appeared in 1764. The present edition is a reissue of the 1792 edition published in Philadelphia by Robert Campbell without the Ten Pound Act and the sections on military and excise law. The preface says this edition, though useful throughout the country, is especially suited for justices in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The book has a second part of useful texts, such as "A Guide to Juries," "Notes on Magna Charta," "Of Maxims and General Rules, from Jacob's Law Grammar," "Of Actions and Remedies" and "Of Fictions, Intendments, and Presumptions."
