About This Item
New York: Longmans, Green and Co, 1957. Hardcover. Small 4to. Grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. xxvi, 389pp. Illustrations. Near fine/good plus. Large jacket fold separations archivally closed on verso, thus complete and fairly attractive. First edition, tight and attractive, of this highly-regarded anthology, which E.B. Long critiques as "A literary miscellany that captures much of the flavor of life and society in the embattled South." Special limitation sheet tipped in facing frontispiece, signed boldly in full by Harwell in blue ballpoint. Front flyleaf bears the handsome bookplate of Lincoln Federal Savings and Loan Association of Berwyn -- which may seem odd, but in days of yore this Chicago suburban institution actually assembled and maintained a first-rate collection of Lincolniana. NEVINS II, 15.
