London: Jonathan Cape, 1969. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. London, Jonathan Cape, 1969 (first thus). Octavo, 960 pages with a frontispiece self-portrait plus 12 pages of plates. Quarter cloth and papered boards, top edge dyed black; leading and bottom edges and endpapers foxed, with minor offsetting to the first and last pages; an excellent copy with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper. The first two parts of the book (pages 29-389) were first published in 1929; the balance of the work is published here for the first time.
