Melbourne: James Fergusson, 1850. Fine overall. Sepia lithograph of a prominent church in mid-19th century Hobart, Tasmania. The tall church spire and graceful front frames a man driving a small herd of sheep and cows down the street in front of the church. 'George Clarke, Minister' printed below title. Minister Clarke [1823-1913] was a civil servant before becoming a minister and served the Congregational Church for 52 years before eventually becoming chancellor to the University of Tasmania. 22 x 42 cm with large margins. References: Old Tasmanian prints by Clifford Craig; p.146. OCLC: 221012067. Trove cites two copies, National Gallery Australia & SLT. A few minor closed tears on one side.
