CONTACT WITH SPACE, Reich's final publication, documents his scientific expedition to southern Arizona during 1954-55. He went to Arizona to study the causes of the formation of deserts and to experiment in weather control using his apparatus, the "cloudbuster". He called his research with the cloudbuster "Cosmic orgone engineering". It was during this period that Reich also conducted experiments which are detailed in this book concerning UFO's. He directed his cloudbuster, which, for this purpose, he called a "spacegun", towards lights in the sky that he surmised may be spaceships. He writes that having done this the lights would occasionally flicker or fade out as a result of the contact. "I had hesitated for weeks to turn my cloudbuster pipes toward a 'star,' as if I had known that some of the blinking lights hanging in the sky were not planets or fixed stars but SPACE machines. With the fading out of the two 'stars,' the cloudbuster had suddenly changed into a SPACEGUN. From then onward, too, our approach to the problem of space became positive, affirmative, confident in using our carefully screened data."

"THE CORE PILOT PRESS takes pleasure in announcing its first publication - CONTACT WITH SPACE, the Second Oranur Report, by Wilhelm Reich. CONTACT WITH SPACE is being published in relation to the current western Dust Bowl problem, and to the larger problem of the planetary DOR [Deadly Orgone] Emergency of which desert development is one aspect. It contains the result of six years of intensive research and field work, a natural scientific account of the basis of, and of practical measures for combating the DOR Emergency. Due to the acuteness of the Emergency it was considered a social and human responsibility to put CONTACT WITH SPACE into public circulation, though it contains hitherto top secret information." - [Quoted from the dust wrapper blurb].
